Louis-Francois Cartier began his splendid career in 1847 in Paris with the opening of his first private customersРІР‚в„ў workshop in 1853. The first Cartier shop was opened in 1859.
In 1899, the new building was set in the downtown of Paris that soon became and still is the center of international jewelry. The Maison Cartier was managed by the grandsons of the founder. The companyРІР‚в„ўs international expansion began with the establishment of Cartier boutiques in London in 1902 and New York in 1905.
Louis Cartier, the manager of the Parisian office and one of the grandsons of the companyРІР‚в„ўs founder, was a very talented innovator. With Louis Cartier there was born the famous Cartier style, innovative yet classic, combining novelties and traditions in the same masterpiece by Cartier. Starting with 1902, Cartier became the most prestigious jeweller in the world. Two years later, with the assistance of a brilliant watchmaker Edmond Jaeger, Cartier created a pilot version of the first Cartier wristwatch. After the World War I, Cartier decided to manufacture original wristwatches with panther skin style with diamonds and onyx. In 1916, another wrist watch named “Tortue” was decorated with dots. The panther spot motif has become a recognition symbol for the Maison Cartier.
The 60 years of success and glory led to creation of a vermeil watch with a modern rectangular dial “Tank Must de Cartier”. This vermeil collection was the very first with a mechanical movement. In 1978, Cartier gave a new life to the traditional design of the first watch created by Cartier. It was a launch of bold combination of steel and gold, whose immediate and great success was the starting point for the following Cartier creations in the 1970s and 1980s. The inventive screws of the Santos watch were not hidden, having become a sign of Cartier’s style recognition.
As praise to power, in 1985, Cartier created the Pasha watch paying tribute to a round watch created in the 19th century. Identified as a symbol of power by its massive design and name, this timepiece became an essential object for travelers and their never-ending curiosity.
In 1989, Cartier designed a new model taking its inspiration in the Tank line: the Tank Américaine. A gold or platinum rectangle was decorated with a gold or leather strap. This watch was the CartierРІР‚в„ўs greatest success in the 1990s.
For the 10th anniversary of the Pasha de Cartier, The Pasha C was created. This massive, bold and sportive watch reflected the contemporary luxury that suits both office and open air life.
