At the end of 2006 Panerai introduced its Luminor 1950 Submersible 1000 M. The timepiece catches imagination due to innovative technical characteristics. The lovers of the aesthetic side of a watch will appreciate its sporty refinement.
The new Luminor Submersible has set a new direction of case creating. Still featuring distinctively Luminor styling, the watch's case has been considerably modified especially regarding its shape and dimensions.
Panerai's watchmakers faced a challenge of developing a timepiece with a case construction that would perfectly resist stresses possible at a depth of 1,000 meters. They provided the brushed steel screw back with specially-elaborated seals. As for the winding crown, it is protected by the lever device. It has been patented and additionally strengthened to fit the Submersible watch model destined to be used by real professionals.
The bezel in particular is worth special attention. It is produced from steel and features a brushed finish as well as polished steel outlines. The bezel has been technically devised to offer the measurement of immersion time and click for each minute. The bezel of unidirectional type is to be rotated only anti-clockwise. It reveals 1/60th scale featuring markings for every minute for the first 15 minutes. Then there are gradations for 5-minute intervals. The bezel is provided with novel patented operation system due to which it will be more wear-resistant and will not be affected by high temperatures.
The highest degree of water-resistance is guaranteed by a helium escape valve that is responsible for protecting the case of the watch. It offers proper protection to the movement. When the watch's owner submerges down to significant depths for long periods of time with Luminor 1950 Submersible 1000 M on his wrist, due to the escape valve the movement of the watch is reliably protected from infiltration.
Helium is known as a gas with a very simple molecular structure. Deep-underwater conditions make helium diffuse through the fields where the components of the case come into contact. The watchmakers has also taken care to keep the watch away from damage when the diver returns back to the surface. The damage that could have been caused by the expansion of the helium is neutralized as due to the valve the gas escapes. This way the case is not subjected to the risk of enormous pressure.
The traditionally black dial of the watch depicts distinctive Panerai graphic style. The dial is safely covered by the 5-mm thick cambered sapphire crystal. The date window with magnifying lens is positioned at 3 o'clock, while the small seconds dial is found at 9 o'clock. The hour markers and the hands are provided with Superluminova covering.
The Luminor 1950 Submersible 1000 M watch is powered by Panerai automatic caliber OP III. A real expert will appreciate the caliber's superb finish. It offers an advantage of 42-hour power reserve. The Glucydur balance vibrates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The movement is supplied with Incabloc anti-shock device and Cotes de Geneve decoration. its accurate continuous work is guaranteed by prestigious COSC chronometer certification.
The novelty Panerai timepiece goes with a rubber strap with moulded edges. It features brushed steel personalized buckle. There is a screwdriver and interchangeable strap applied. The watch is to be produced in the edition of 500 pieces for 2006. It has been distributed since December, 2006. |
